Default V1 needs to be updated to today’s standards.

1st I will say that we all know the V1 has the best sensitivity and some pretty cool settings compared to other RD’s but how they do it needs some improvement. Its so 80’s.

Is V1 ever going to update there RD to a more year 2000 like the display (colors) and better detail (display) of what its doing/seeing. Sure the internals have been “updated” but essentially the way it communicates with the driver and how it looks has not changed. It’s difficult to determine what band you are receiving from the display, and that whole L,l,A,a thing is just stupid.
Belscort: City, Highway, Auto. How easy is that. Besides on the Belscorts display it shows all the details in easy to read words not abbreviated letters that don’t correspond to realy anything logical.

I just think V1 has gotten lazy and is just riding on the sensitivity & arrows. They could destroy the competition if they incorporated a real display & easier user settings for the average consumer.

V-1 does what its supposed to---and no more
Its not that bad really after you get use to it--very easy and simple design that works

This has already been beaten to death many times.

The V1 does what it is supposed to do and does it damn well as Holla said

As for looks, I still think it looks better than an STI or 8500 because its not so long. When you have a V1 mounted high and sitting level it looks sexy as hell.

Programming is actually very simple despite the fact that newbies always whine about this.

If you have trouble telling the alerts apart then you need more experience with the V1. Once you use it for awhile you never even need to look at the band id because the tones are unmistakably unique (ka and k might sound sorta similar but laser is definitely its own)

The only thing it probably needs is a frequency display.

As I say, image is nothing and performance is everything so thats .........

I have no problem whatsoever with V1 since my purcahsed for V1 6 days ago. I am loving it and the only thing they need to improve is the Color LEDs. I love how it mounts it high next to the RVM for my Mazda 3, it even mounts it better than my X50 with no movements at all. It fits perfectly on my windshield because my X50 would mount it kind of slope and it does not detect well behind because of that. I try to straighten but thats how far it goes but the V1 mounts farthest you want until it falls off (the backpart).

Agreed. this conversation is a dead bat... probably one of the reasons I havent been on a forum in about 2 years +.....

Frequecy displays are not accurate at all and are not really usefull... I have had one... and yeah I knew theres a false from some of the alearts... but not all... that some is not worth the info overload... which Mike states on the web site!

The V1 is a pure radar detector, and focuses entirely on that. That is why it is the top detector to use. It puts pure focus on the important stuff, and disreguards that other crap that other companies like to put into their detectors (Can anyone say Cobra "12 Band" detection, and Compass? )

The directional arrows are actually a feature that other companies want to get into their detectors, but cannot due to the patents that Mike Valentine still currently has in effect. The V1 was developed to be similiar to a Miliatary RWR system: Identify the type of thread, the number of threats, and the location of the threats. The Military doesn't bother with whether the frequency of the SU-27 Radar is xx.xxMh/z, but instead just displays a '29' symbol on the RWR (since the Su-27 shares the same Radar as the MiG-29). I'm not sure about you, but its easier to dechiper a big Flashing Ka than to try to remember what in the hell 35.5 Mh/z was supposed to be. Also, the V1 uses the directional arrows to determine the source of the threat. The military aircraft have a 360 degree detection, and it'll place the symbology in the position of where the radar was trianglulated to be. This lets you know whether the threat is coming, or if it behind you and can be disreguarded (or to treat it as a threat if your state allows moving radar...). The threat counter also shows the number of radar sources, so you know exactly how many sources are there. If you're on the interstate and recieve a strong hit of Ka, and you notice it is 1 source, its easy to see that it is highly likely a Krispy Creme fanatic, But if you're in town, and the threat counter reads 6 or something like that, then its likely you're just in the middle of a shopping complex.

Also, V1 doesn't deal with Voice alerts, Why? Well, its pretty simple. For one, voice alerts are harder to understand when you're somewhat distracted (Convo with a passenger, jamming out to Rammstein...etc), so you may hear the VA, but didn't hear what it was actually trying to tell you. Meanwhile, when you hear the tone, you understand what it tells you pretty easily. Beeps are usually X band, Braps are usually K Band radar. Also, the tones can tell you the strength of the signal. Low signal strength is a slow frequency, while a high signal stength may be indicated as a solid tone. If it works for the military and has saved many a USAF/USN/USMC pilot, then it'll help you out .

Hello,

Ok, start beating the old horse again.

Really, it works great, nothing fancy on display but I'm happy it works so well.

Would I take one that had a new digital display?

Sure in a heart beat IF it worked as well as the current one.

If it didn't cost me another arm and leg. I still have to drive ,

I gave up the other pair to get the original V1.

Take care,

Spin

V1 and 8500
Radar, yep.....MPH / Kustom / Stalker / Targetron

I'll take a V1 any day. Like some other folks said, it is a radar locator/detector and does it better than the rest. I like the magnesium case instead of cheap plastic. I bought it for it's ability to maybe save me a speeding ticket. I don't give a hoot about a compass, or a speedometer, hell I have one of those already. Cheers
