Default My first Valentine one complaint in a long time.

The V1 failed me yesterday for the 5th time in two weeks. I turned a corner and to my dismay as soon as i got to legally posted or 5 over, instant on KA band Ouch. The alert would have came just tad to late. My detector never alerted me at the intersection after sitting there for a good solid minute and half. THe worst part his trigger on me was 50ft from the front of his car. Now the situation is crappy, but had i been traveling straight on, and already been at cruising altitude i would have gotten my first ever ticket.

I think Valentine one really needs to look into this 35.5ghz off axis issue. Because there unit Will not save you as they claim.

Did you contact VR? It could be possible that your V1 is out of tune.

Default I guess here is the thing..

I guess here is the thing yes IO is difficult. But i've had my far share of IO hits, this guy Shot more than just me before i encountered that intersection... Yet no advanced, this isn't the first time i've had an issue with 35.5ghz ka band on my valentine one. It is a problem for sure, and keep thinking it's not. The BUG does exist i've seen it now mulitpule times weather it was IO or not, the v1 barley even alerted me. Yes normally the out of tune thing could be correct although i just had my unit tuned not a month ago before the alpine invational.. So that is out of the question and it picks up my 34.7ghz stalker JUST fine...Although i can even make it miss alerts on my Stalker ATR if i quick trigger fast enough, now it's not really a totally LEGIT trigger and i may be overloading the front end of the receiver on my detector at times. But I can defently make a v1 miss an alert, you best beleive that. And the reason is the Frequency and where it is located in the EHF Ka bandwidth. It is dead center in the middle of your scan of the Ka band so it is Always ALways going to be the Last frequency you pick up! This is the reason 35.5ghz is SO deadly not to mention Ka band is so much more Narrow than K band or x band width ehf emmisions.. Remember the higher the frequency the shorter the antenna needed for the transmission the shorter the antenna the more directional or of a Beam anteanna it becomes which is why There is also less scatter with 35.5ghz it is the highest Freq you can get hit with today with radar. So it is also the most Narrow beam out there. So Yes 35.5ghz is an issue. On any detector although i personally have noticed the V1 has some of the worst Side Lobe detection i have seen of the top end units, The reason this is, is because if it had too much side lobe detection the Arrows would not be as accuret, due to the fact that they couldn't differentiate which antenna was receiveing a stronger signal.

If i lost you at the antenna. Think about this look at your cell phone now cell phones most often times can be 850mhz to 3ghz for a nextel phone. Look how short that antenna is now you personally know the beam on that RF signal is tight because when you enter a building or trees even watch your Signal dissapear in a heart beat! Whereas with A cb which is in the 28mhz region Watch as it works pretty flawlessly in the Trails even. The reason is the lower the freq the better the signal carries through objects trees bushes, hills etc. The reason for this is technical to the average person but i'll explain in lamens terms for you. When you shoot a tight beam and it gets cut there isn't anything left to make that jump to your detector, hence no advanced overage just as laser does! Now if the beam is wider or lower in freq such as x band for instance or S band radars. It will get broken in that one spot but the rest will pass the object by and gain a reflection from your car and create scatter for you to gain an alert! Wella another principal for undetectable radars...Merely place them at such a high freq that the beam is so tight that a detector would be pointless you could by all means make radar more deadly and user friendly than lidar...why they don't do it i don't know..but 35.5 is the closest thing, and it seems they are catching on! I hope they don't ever move there stuff to the 60GHZ bandwidth or you can forget your mesily little detector working ever again... Due to the fact that the Radio spectrum goes all the way to 300ghz this could perhaps be done as well. Maybe now i've OPENED YOUR EYES A TAD.

Opened my eyes--Im a little radar freak myself and understand what you are saying--I think during all these test with the V-1 and the GOL guys its a known fact that the V-1 is a little short on 35.5 KA.

Hopefully it will be addresed my Mike V soon. Like you said KA is a pain in the a-- anyway

Yea, the GOL already discovered this awile ago. The v1 is great in almost every aspect but the 35.5 off axis is pretty bad from what the testing showed. However, I believe for straightline the v1 has no problem on 35.5.

If i remember correctly, the 35.5 off axis issue is only problematic for certain guns. In the GOL test it was the Kustom Golden Eagle.

Does anyone know if this has been a documented issue for Decatur ka guns?

Unfortunately I will never get a chance to test our the 35.5 thing personally because they only use Stalkers in my area

Do you know where I can find the information about my area whether what Gun/Frequency they use? The State Troopers here uses Ka.

Cool

Use a higher end belscort users detector and go into program by depressing the two top buttons and holding at once untill the beep beep tone sounds look at the display it wil then be in the programing menu scroll with the above button on the top of the unit untill you either see a mode to change the display to hwy,spec,tec,thr.. You want to switch from hwy to spc or tec display then next time you encounter that Leo after letting the dectector get out of this menu on the x-50 you have to wait about 30 seconds and it will go beep beep beep beep and the go to spec display, on the sti driver... You can acutally depress the Power button once and it will take it out of this menu instantly without the wait NICE FEATURE ON Beltronics PART!

Now spec or tec can be off up to 100mhz at times, this is the nature of the beast not everything is perfect. IT will be close enough that you will be able to tell though! For instance, EX:

34.678 This would be 34.7 AKA Stalker Radar ka band.

OR lets show a golden eagle and the spec display discrepency.

35.450 this is actually a 35.5 ghz radar. Its just spec display is misidentifiying the actual freq do to propgation. OR it is his gun is poorly tuned.

By the way where i live 35.5ghz is the state contracted gun... I think i've encoutered a little more than the GOL. But if thats what there finds show, then yes so far they are correct. I don't beleive everything i hear.

Hello Alpine and the group,

First post as a new member:

Ka, as you know, it has a very narrow beam. The county here uses Decatur Genius and Kustom Talon II Ka units. I don't seem to get 'good' side alerts from either brand of radar for some reason.

The other day:

Going north bound on a state 2 lane highway.Traffic sitting at a intersection, which is on top of a small hill with a car and a SUV going to cross in across state highway after I get though.

About 300 to 500 ft from the intersection. I get a alert which went quickly up to full alert.

I look ahead, searching the on coming traffic (2 cars) no LEO. Finally see him, SUV unit, only telling sign it is a LEO is the hard to see light blue lettering. The county went to these with no light bar. Only mirror LED, wig-wags and LED mounted inside, they are also starting to use those hard to see new LED thin light bars. The days of seeing the huge profile light bar are sure gone.

(sure remember the huge single 4 bulb lights they use to use years ago.....county here had a pair of them on top. like having a neon sign up there, could see them coming even without them being on. )

I think lot of the problem with the 35.5 is the new tighter beam that Kustom uses these days. Anyone have a new Kustom Golden Eagle directional yet someone can test with? When taking to Kustom, they redesigned the horn on the last update for the Eagle.

I might send in my V1, it seems to have (at times) better rear detection then front lately. Guess I better call them and schedule a 'tune up' for it. I've had it for 6 years and it would be the first time to be sent in. I'll post the version later on.....

Take care,

Spin

Be safe and always use a rabbit....I know, everyone forget at times...I did going to see my parents....

Using Rabbit always work ahead if you leave space about 10-15 yds away from the Rabbit or far as 40 yds for V1 against IO Ka at Full Burst.
