Default First time my V1 went off ...

Just got my V1 last week and couldn't wait to try it. After tried several days, didn't get any long beep.

But this morning, when I was driving 40 on 35 zone on the first right lane, my V1 suddenly went off loudly. I was just thinking whether it was false alarm or.........OMG, i saw a cop sitting on motorcycle and waiting on the sidewalk, just 200 feet ahead of me.

This pretty much scared me. I think if I were driving over 45, I wouldn't be able to react - It was only 200 feet or even less !

I dunno what kind Radar the cop carried, but I am sure he did not look at me when I saw him. So that seemed his radar was already ON..........huh? I thought V1 should be able to see a radar much ealier than I see, I am wrong?

That is IO (instant on) radar for you.......the LEO likely had his radar off and just turned it on when you came into view.

IO radar is deadly, and is why you should always have a rabbit (a car traveling ahead of you) so that the LEO gets the rabbit's speed....you get an alert and slow down.

If he wasn’t looking at you it may have been pointing a different direction, radar is very directional.

1- I/O.
2- Radar gun facing different direction.
3- Your glass blocks radar.

3 seems to be possible because the V1's are very sensitive and go off constantly. And it sounded like it hasn’t made a peep for you.

What car do you have?

Thank you two for the above replies. I am driving a bimmer E93.

This morning, when I was driving on local street, I also got V1's warning while I was getting close to a speed detector with the speed limit sign of 35MPH. My V1 clearly increased the LED from 3 to 10. But around at 6, I found the radar <300 feet ahead. I am sure it did directly point at me.

I have not had a chance to try my V1 on Highway yet. Will do a long trip next week. What tricks do you guys have on Highway? keep following behind some rabbits? Thanks
