Default Valentine One Radar Detector vs Escort Passport 9500i

I have been a fan of the Valentine one radar detector for quite some time, decided to switch to the Escort Passport 9500i . After using it I have decided to sell it back and go back with the V1.

Cons:
Speedtrap and Camera markings.... you can mark the spot but it alerts me 5,000 feet away.... and you cant change this... way too long of a distance to notify someone.... find this feature useless.

After many encounters I have had a lot of close ones while the cop was using constant on K or Ka radar..... the V1 alerts me alot closer and with closer notice.... the Valentine One has the arrows that I love but the overall sensitivity of the Valentine One and the range is much better.... yes the Valentine One Radar makes alot more noise in the city... but I can deal with this because of the greater distance it allows me to have on the K band and the KA band

I just had another encounter this morning with a cop using KA on constant. I was coming up to a hill on the freeway and he was in the middle lane coming at me in the HOV lane (which is right in the middle), my 9500i alerted me with one bar when I was coming over the hill, as soon as I went over the hill then bam... full bar KA, cop was right there.... probably about 1/4 mile or less of an alert on me

Surprised to here you’re sending it back. I don’t believe you had it long.

The speed trap mark location isn’t relay good for dally trips or close in proximity cameras. Its relay good for less traveled roads/trips that you’ll forget about. 5000ft is fine for less traveled speed traps and at slower speeds its only 2500ft. (hopefully this can be changed with the USB at some point)
Moving radar doesn’t pick up your speed very far it’s almost 1/2 of stationary radar, and over a hill can be deadly for any RD.

Its almost imposable to go from a V1 to a 9500I (I have only seen 2 or 3 people) the V1 is a very different breed of RD, and in most cases the 9500I takes too long to get to know, especially how it alerts if the signal is a true threat and you don’t immediately react.

I know you will be much happier with your V1, the situational awareness it provides is unparalleled. Personally I hate falses and can’t stand when my 9500I falses, even though it’s extremely rare. I know when ever I get just 1 beep from my 9500I I immediately slow down. I hated analyzing my old 8500 to figure out if it was a false or not. I can’t imagine how I would be with a V1.

^ Indeed, that's the issue.

Fundamentally, these two dectectors address very different end-user needs and preferences.

Both are top-flight detectors, and both perform extremely well given their specific roles.

well after running the 9500i yesterday I really dont class it is a high end detector, it alerts are woefull, the V1 is going off on K band for sometimes 1 min before the 9500 starts, even the STi alerts wayy earlier than the 9500i, I will get some video today to show you.

I like the GPS featurset and think that is great but id give all that up to have detection like a STi or V1

what mode are you running it in? if its in auto that could be why:

"The PASSPORT 9500i radar detector can automatically vary its sensitivity based on the speed of your vehicle. At interstate speeds, all radar bands are operating at full sensitivity, providing the best possible performance. At really slow speeds, like parking lots and stop lights, the sensitivity is turned down to almost zero. No more irritating alerts when you are going below the posted speed. The result is real-time on-demand radar protection."

from what I read ka is always running at full sensitivity, but I could be wrong. I don't have a 9500i i have a v1 so i'm just going by what others have said.

Ya something’s wrong, I get wicked detection range on K, and the times its not so hot is because it’s not a real threat. It’s got to be in "A" mode or it’s not an updated unit.

Can’t get any higher end than the 9500I, its $450. Now sensitivity might not be consistently #1 or 2 but it’s up there, and you won’t be desensitized with falses.
