Default Just Recieved Whistler Pro 78 Radar Detector

Just received my Pro 78 from Amazon.

Initially I was concerned when I checked the circuit board and saw the indication 02-07 Rev 0, however, I checked the firmware and it was Rev C.

I mounted the 78 just below my wiper blades (because I don't want to advertise it to the LOEs) leveled it up and drove around a bit. I didn't find any speed signs or LOEs, and got no alarms (still in Highway mode), so I thought I'd try the auto doors at Office Depot. Sure enough I got a K band alarm right out in front.

I'll report my results as I test it.

You'll find it to be a very quiet RD, and very reliable on Ka-band especially.

I am supposed to send mine off for an update, but I can't make myself drive without it. LOL.

That describes the Pro-78's performance perfectly and in a nutshell.

Well, I've had my Pro 78 for 10 days and I haven't seen a speed trap. I have tested it on a couple of K band speed signs and on the Office Depot door opener but thats all. However, I do have a couple of interesting observations that I would like to ask you more knowledgeable members about.

1. I was driving along one day when all of a sudden and an alarm sounds (I don't know which one) and the screen on the RD flashes CAUTION. On the same day, I received another alarm and the RD flashed PULSE. What does these mean? I didn't see any LOE and there was no voice warning in either case.

2. Twice, while driving, the RD has alarmed with no voice warning, the screen indicates PWR OFF, and the unit cycles off then on again. What causes this? I checked but there are no identifiable loose connections in the power cable.

3. On Hwy 34, here in Loveland, CO, there is a stretch of 1-2 miles where, for the last week, the unit will ramp up on Ka band to maximum heading both east and west, but again, I can't see any LOE. There is construction going on and in the vicinity of the maximum signal there is a lighted sign in the median warning of the construction ahead....this is not a speed indicator sign, it is much bigger than those.

I would appreciate it if you could clarify for me what is going on in the examples cited above.

Caution falls under the SWS (safety warning system) and most likely isn't used where you live. You might check in the users manual to see if you can turn SWS off. Pulse is the same thing as I/O (Instant On) radar. To sum it up, I/O is when the police officer puts his radar gun in a "hold" mode. This is done by turning off the radar beam but still keeping the radar gun on. Once you get within a certain range of the beam, the officer turns the radar beam on quickly and then off. This is what "PULSE" is. When pulse comes up on the display of the pro 78, I WOULD SLOW DOWN! As far as a ka band source you go by every day, it is probably a false alarm. Some falses come from Banks/Credit Unions. I have a Credit Union locally here which I get a false on ka band on almost every one of my different rd's in which I run.
