Radar detectors are completely legal to use in non-commercial vehicles. Virginia and Washington DC are the only 2 states in the United States that currently ban the use of radar detectors.
There is a federal law banning use of radar detectors in any commercial vehicle over 10,000 pounds. Radar detectors are also illegal on any military base.

The same goes for Minnesota but I have never seen this law enforced in California. People have satellite radios, rd, and GPS stuck to their windows like crazy in California.

If you're paranoid about CA and MN, just use the Visor mounts instead of the window mounts and suction cups.

The Visor mount is also nice in northern states where the suction cups like to fall off of cold windows.

Default Cali

Radar detectors are legal in CA to use. The law for commercial motor vehicle drivers is very vague and very outdated, not too much to worry about unless in Texas/Virginia/D.C and especially Ontario.

They are legal to use, just not legal to have mounted to your windshield, and I have been b!tched at about it when I was in Cali, never ticketed though. Visor mount or in-dash remote units like the SRX are the way to go if you're worried about it

Yeah, but that's not in his price limit (200-300). STi is 450.

I'd also rec the V1, but at 400 - same problem.

Personally, though I would rather have either one of those 2 units or no RD. No point in much else unless you only have K-band to contend with. Then you could go with almost anything.
