Default Bel Rx65 stolen, bummed... now what?

Hi.
My RX65 was stolen and I thought it was decent although I never messed with it. I would just turn it on and set it for city or highway. Really dont know what all bands I need but I seen all the normal ones like X, K, Ka throughout Florida.

One thing I liked about it was the mute button on the adapter part.
As you can see I dont know that much about radar detectors.

Should I try to find another one or try something else? Cant afford too much unless its used. I would like to have one of those detectors that mount in the grill and just have the other part inside my truck. But those are probably too much.

Seems like you cant have anything nice without someone else wanting to take it away from you.

Sorry to hear about the RD being stolen. I understand if you dont have a bunch of money to drop on a new detector. But I recommend saving couple of pay checks and get a Valentine 1. Just dont leave it up in the window when you leave your car. You can only purchase online at v1.com, Other wise everything else will just be sub par.... with a front and rear antenna in the V1 and arrows it will tell you the direction the signal is coming from and tell you how many. You can buy a used V1 from V1 its a little bit less then full price but you have to call them.

I understand the V1 has some downside... But not sure what it is. What about laser and or Pop instant on radar?

Im not sure if I need that or not and dont know if the RX65 had it but I think it did.

I remember about a year ago comparing some of these detectors and the RX65 seemed like a good middle of the road model.

I would have to disagree on the V1 for you. You say you really don't know about it, just plug it in and turn it on. The V1 is a more interactive RD and not all users want to get this involved. If you want pure range and performance with more falsing, go for the V1.
Sounds like for you the one of the Bels, maybe the 940. or the Whistler Pro 78 would be more in line with your price range and user friendliness. You can find a few sub 200 dollars RD's that will perform for you. BUT, as some say, and I tend to agree, buy the best you can afford even if you have to save a little longer. Pay now or pay later, to the cops.

x2 fire65.

V1 is nice, but its also out of your price range from what you stated. Like what’s fire said, the 940 and Pro78 are good choices. If you had the little extra $$$ look into an Escort 8500X50.

Is there anything to worry about when buying used RD's?
I bought the 65 used and it was fine.

Hard to say, if you buy from a dealer you get warranty. If you buy from Ebay, you get what you get. I bought all mine off Ebay, but I bought alot, kept the ones I wanted. Ebay, or whatever is OK if you understand what you are doing, and buy cheap. You can send the X50 in for around 70 dollars, and it will be like new. Or as I did, buy alot and keep the one you want and sell the rest.
