Yep, unauthorized resalers FTMFL! However, if the unit is alerting to the Your Speed signs in construction zones, it may be functioning on X and K, but NOT on Ka, which is probably what nailed you.

Here's an update. Everything you all said was right on. I called Valentine and Cricket had reprogrammed it for Europe, the warranty is non-transferable, and I am paying the $45 to make it work. I have contacted Cricket but don't expect much from them. A chargeback from my credit card company will get their attention for awhile, hopefully.

Caveat emptor....a lesson learned. Thank you everyone for your help. I learned a lot and will continue to use this site to it's fullest extent.

is it out of warranty, are you the original owner?
they only reason they charge $45, it's because it's either out of warranty or you're not the original owner...
