What system does cops use to write radar and laser tickets?

What system do cops use to write you a ticket for speeding? You are pulled over and first thing they usually do is run your license plate to make sure it isnt stolen...etc.... but after they receive your license and run it in their computer in their car and issue a ticket.... how are they communicating....where is there computer communicating too? Does it use a wireless connection.....that maybe you could scan from your car and pick it up??
