Question Radar Detector for a friend

so my friend has finally decided that he needs a rd to go from and to school which is about 7 hrs from our home. he doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a V1. so i was thinking about telling him to get a pro 78 or a 955 vector. I just also saw a used rx65 on craigslist for 180 so i was wondering what i should do. also he would most likely want to hardwire it. he has a saab 93 aero with the power rear mirrior if any ideas about anything would be much appreciated

I say your best bang for your buck radar would be the Bel 980, to me it almost keeps up with the Escort Passport 8500 X50 at times, only thing it isnt that great at is laser....but for almost all radar detectors....if you get with laser...more then likely he has your speed already. But check out ebay they go for only 75.00 or so. Also we have a "classified" section at the top, just click the tab and see what members are selling in their as well.

ebay to me is a great resource, just make sure you use paypal.com which is a secure payment and if anything is wrong with it they will refund your payment. Also look at a members feedback, if they have alot of negative feedback dont buy from them...if they have say 150+ positive feedback and little to none negative feedback, then they are probably a great buyer to use.

RX65 is a descent radar detector...I still think the Bel 980 you would be extremely happy with and it is half the cost of the RX 65

Any of the above mentioned detectors are very good.
Be carefull on ebay as it will most likely void your warranty

Default i tried them all escort all the way

i have tried every radar detector ever made over the last 25 years, and have found that most are junk except 2 the escort or the valentine the rest are a complete waste of money, after driving with the v1 and escort, i choose escort, thanks

I have to respectfully disagree with the tone of this comment.
Not everything currently made except for the above mentioned is junk.

For starters the Bel and Escort share the same platform, so by default if you accept the Escort, you also need to accept the Bel unless you are talking more specifically about features rather than flat out performance.

In your 25 years have you driven with a pro78?
It has only been available for just under 1 year but the rev C has only been available since Nov/Dec 2007.

I also have driven with everything made in the last 25 years and while I agree that the V1, Bel and Escort are the ones to beat, the Pro78 does a great job in daily driving with real life situations.

I have received many good comments about the Pro78 Rev C by owners of the other high end brands including your two favorites.
