Any members on here live in Virginia....just curious how bad it is up there with police radar....i believe they do aerial police enforcement as well??

I live in central VA. Laser is spreading and so is the use of the spectre, especially on interstates and state lines. VSP are pretty cool in my area with radar. They will give you a cushion over the limit. Local cops are a little more tight. I've video of spectre in NOVA, heard of it being in Ashland and Roanoke. I haven't seen in my area, Lynchburg area. Still looking though. Amherst Co deputies run VG2s. No biggie there. I've personally seen laser in Appomattox. I've heard of aerial but haven't seen any. I-81 they are real tight up there in the Roanoke area, best I can describe, they bust you up there for speeding, lots of accidents.

My condolences for the fact that you live in the Peoples Republic of Virginia.

I have travelled a bit thru VA (unfortunately). From my experience and what I've heard lately, VSP have been slowly starting to use laser, but they are still mostly Ka. Most of the rest of the state's localities still use K-band, but the metro areas are using more and more Ka.

It seems the more affluent the area, the more you'll find Ka and especially laser, and the less you will find K band. However, that is just a generalization. For instance, I understand that Loudoun county still uses mostly K band. Loudoun is something like the #1, 2, or 3 richest county in the country yet it has one of the lowest Po-lease occifer to citizen ratios in the U.S. Lucky for those residents (perhaps)!

However, Fairfax county which is right next to it is almost exclusively laser, with some moving Ka and the occassional stationary Ka on 2-lane back roads.

For benefit of those who live in the state, I can confirm the presence of Genius K and Ka band radars in Virginia Beach, Ka (unknown brand) in neighboring Norfolk, and the use of Ka on the interstates there in SE VA by VSP.

Richmond VSP... (about in the middle of the state and state capital)... Ka and I've seen one using a Pro-Lite, but that was a few years ago and I am pretty certain he was beta testing and not enforcing. These days, who knows.

Spectre units... yes in Ashland and especially around Emporia. OMG talk about a speed trap. I think if you fart and it pushed your car 1 mph over you would get a ticket.

Personally, I suggest to my friends that they avoid driving through VA if possible. Screw those turds. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

I am pretty sure Virginia is one of the top states for writing tickets. And they have some asinine laws which promote it, like their RD (reckless driving) statute which has about five billion iterations... such as failing to use a turn signal for a lane change or speeding +20. What a joke.

I know someone with the NMA who was able to get data from the VA DMV on the convictions for RD tickets in the state in 2006. 100,000 convictions for reckless driving. I kid you not. And that was ONLY for the 20+ speeding violation of their RD statute. I mean WTF??? 100,000 tickets. Plus now if you have the misfortune to live there that can cost you over $3,500 just in fines + higher insurance + lawyer fees. What a racket.

What is wrong with people who live there? They should wake up and overthrow their state government. Unbelievable bunch of sheep.

For comparison purposes, my NMA contact told me that in the same year neighboring West Virginia had 1,000 RD convictions (i.e. excluding peeps who plea bargained or something else), and North Carolina had 3,000. So, Virginia had 33 - 100 times as many RD convictions in the same year. AND North Carolina's RD statute is tougher in terms of speeding (+15 over PSL).

So, again I say WTF is up with Virginia? Is that a cash cow ticket writing machine or what.

Oh, and their state vehicle code dates back to 1950. Go figure. Maybe the jalopies people were driving back then were reckless at 20 over, but then I don't think the seatbelt had been invented then either.

It's sad. What a bunch of backward hicks in your state legislature.

Basically when you go into VA, you're staring down the barrel of a proverbial A-10 Thunderbolt II. If it exists in traffic enforcement, Virginia probably has it.
