Default Do cops profile vehicles by color?

What do you think.....do cops profile vehicles more by color....say a red sports car vs the same sports car in black.....

I have heard that a red sports car is more likely to appeal to the police as a "speeding racing" car, and black cars look smaller at night and other theories. Red sports cars are brighter than most other cars on the street, but I don't think a LEO is going to pay special attention to a red car over a yellow car.

I once heard a women say in a restaurant that her next car won't be red because the cops will perceive a red car as speeding over any other color...??? I'm sure there have been studies to prove this or to bust it...

I think they do, I have heard 100X that a red car will get tagged more than any other color.....I can attest to that

Anything that brings more "notice" to your car will simply attract more attention - be it from other drivers, other car-enthusiasts, or enforcers.

This not only goes for brighter/more-unusual colors/finishes, but also for modifications, and even can include parts of your vehicle that are in obvious disrepair.

Anything and everything - from tinting, to a missing or decorated front plate, to even just a dirty car, to a car that just looks like it doesn't belong in the neighboorhood you're traveling through, can and will get you "profiled."

I saw an article from MSN.com couple of months ago called "7 Traffic Myths" and in the statistic shown that Red Car got the most tickets than any other Cars. One scientist said that Red Car theory attracts people the most or gives them most attention. Its like Blood gives you alot of attention like your going to freak out.

Now for me, everytime I see bright Red Cars in the opposite directions seem to always speed but when you got close up to them, their really not. It is strange to me.

Let me ask you this, would you like to have Red Police in the Rural Area? that would get me so much attention alot far away than regular cop cars (Black and White). That is why they don't prefer Red Cars for public servants, only for Firetrucks.

I did a little Q/A on this subject with some LEO friends before I bought the C6.

Straight up they all said color does not make a difference on what car they shoot. However some colors do cause you do blend into the highway better and so lessen the change of taking a shot. Silver, white and metallic cars are hardest to pickout from a distance during the day. Black and other dark colors are hardest to pickout at night. You should remember that LEOs not only clock the vehicle but have to keep track of it once they start a pursuit.

My DPS buddy is a stickler on that subject. He claims if he loses eye contact with the vehicle he better know what the make and color was at first glance or he'll abandon the stop. This is why darker cars can be a problem. You can't always tell if it's black, dark blue, dark green or even dark red. White and silver sometimes looks the same at night. In my case nothing helps. He said the Corvette is always distinctive no matter the color and easy to pick up even if you lost eye contact with it. So a black Corvette at night yields little advantage but during the day it doesn't blend into the highway as well as silver so it has no advantage.

In the overpass configuration color and make are not a factor at all. Since the LEO is targeting whatever vehicle crests the hill the fastest. Usually too fast to consider make and color before they take the shot.

In general what I learned was the color of your car probably doesn't make you more attractive to targeting than any other factor but some colors will make you look less attractive.

Black is easier to dump the lights on and go stealth at night.
