Default Radar Detector Range.... same as night as it's in day??

I havent seen any videos or postings on radar detectors range in night time?? Seems like all the testing... or most of the testings have been done in day time.... is there any effect on the range of radar in the night time vs. the day time...? Also how about laser....I would imagine it is better at night time because it works off reflections??

At night laser is more effective because reflections are increase quite a bit. The trade of being that your detector can detect laser better at night as well. I have seen this first hand myself. When encountering a few night laser traps.

For radar it doesn't really matter a whole lot.
Some might argue that radar is better at night. But if it is only marginally.

I've never encountered laser at night (yet) but radar detection seems to be better at night. I think it's just because there are more IO ka traps on my route at night so they're a bit easier to see.

On a not so related note: Discussion with a LEO friend. He says working radar at night is no picnic. He claims it's harder to judge your targets speed and keep track of it once you've engaged a stop. He's had to let a few targets go because once he pulled out to stop them he lost track of the target in a pack of cars.

Of course if you're the only car on the road then it's a piece of cake.

laser works very well by night. both my marksman and Prolaser 2 have no problems anyway.

i did find that fog basically blinded the Prolaser but i didnt have the marksman at the time so i didnt get to test it but i can imagine the same would happen to that as well.

rain does affect laser range although i still got 1800 feet shots on the marksman when it was pi$$ing down at the weekend. that was still 1000 feet short of what i had previously got with it before though.

I subscribe to the better distance of warning at night... but no way I can prove it, much less judge distance any better at night.

Just seem's that when I'm on the road in the wee hours of the early morn, I get more distance of warning... could be a false perception.. but I'd like to think that the less traffic has something to do with it.

I would guess that you get longer range using laser at night because of the headlights and xenon's that are on a lot of newer cars. Radar however is probably not effected. But, there is only one way to find out...TEST IT!
