POP radar is a type of radar that uses VERY short pulses of energy to get a "general" speed on a car. It allows a LEO to determine whether it's likely you're speeding or not without setting off most RDs, since the pulses are too short to alert them, though many are adapting now and making units that alert well on these signals. In most places, POP is not enforceable, since the LEO never has a lock until he goes to full I/O radar. But they'll still write you a ticket, since you have no way of knowing if it was POP or locked.

I see... is it a certain type of radar gun? Or is it a mood that can be used on any radar gun? And what is the difference between instant on and pop?

POP is a mode on certain radar guns made by the MPH company. It triggers a ridiculously short burst of energy. It is a pre-set period of time the LEO cannot control and it does NOT lock on.

Instant on until the LEO releases the trigger and CAN provide a lock-on.

What is the difference between POP and PULSE radar?

Do Stalker radar guns have POP or PULSE?

Thanks.
