Default Using new Uniden BCT8 mobile police scanner

Man, this new Uniden BCT8 mobile police scanner sure is nice. I just programmed some frequencies in it yesterday and it is working great. I like the Beartracker feature, if a Highway Patrol officer keys up the microphone and is within 3 miles, an audible and visual alert goes off on the unit. Really cool.

Is that the "Close Call™ RF Capture Technology - Instantly tunes to signals from nearby transmitters" feature?

I want to try a new handheld unit. How is that feature???

Which one of these is better?
Uniden BCT15 Trunktracker III Mobile Police Scanner NEW - eBay (item 280225622123 end time May-10-08 09:03:02 PDT)

The BCT15 like above or the one you got....wasnt sure what the major difference was...the one above is more expensive it looks like...but is there a major difference worth paying for on the above....

Also you probably need to buy an antenna for your trunk or window for reception of these units? Are these units digital....isnt all the police going to digital signals now?

They are analog scanners but are a very nice scanner indeed. The only thing I don't like about it is I can't turn off the big bright light. That should be an option!

No this is not the close call feature. It is beartracker totally different.

I also have a bct-8 and a bcd996t, and close call is nothing like beartracker totally different technology. Although the bct-8 is a nice scanner if i had to do it over again i'd get the bct-15 instead, it has 2,500 programable channels as opposed to 250 and also, it has close capture and beartracker features, and is gps capable as well.. I might be getting rid of my bct-8 sometime in the future and getting a bct-15 instead. Not to mention the bct-15 covers more allocated frequencies as well, also bands. Not that the bct-8 isn't nice it's the clearest scanner i've heard thus far compared to my bcd996t, although from the looks of things the bct-15 is a better scanner.

Also when the average running price is only about 30 dollars more for the bct-15 which is a better scanner obviously why not spend the extra 30 bucks for the added features such as close call i beleive it's worth it, not to mention the channel difference was kind of a let down on the bct-8. Once again it works very well, and the thing is clear as day, but, the features are lacking to some degree of what we know uniden is now capable of, although this scanner is out of production now anyhow, uniden doesn't even retail it anymore not even as a refurb. So if it breaks good luck getting service. And also as biased mentiond the lcd display will not dim which im pretty sure on the bct-15 it will as it looks like a very similar display as to my bcd996t and that will even go into full dark mode so if your operating a scanner in an area where illegal to have in the car you just put it in full dark and it will maintain giving alerts.

This is just my .02 I recommend the bct-15 myself if you by chance get the chance to read this.

Why?

2,500 programable channels as opposed to 250 on bct-8

close capture feature to (AUtomatically tune into nearby transmitters) Unlike the bct-8 where manual tuning is still required.

Gps capablity. Meaning you can hook it up to your gps device, and when you go from county to county it will automatically based on preprogrammed freq's tune into that county based on your location and will detune itself to the previous county via gps location so that you don't get the annoying chatter of the distant freq's that you just had programed as you did in the past, which makes for alot more peacefull ride than the bct-8.

And all this for only $30.00 more on the average, good additions if you ask me and well worth the $30.00 saves you taking your eyes off the road and to me thats always a good thing, keeps us moving at mock speeds and safer while doing it. Although if your stubborn and like doing things the annoying hard way to some extent even though the bct-8 does make it alot easier it was just work in progress for uniden and you can tell by looking at the two models specs. The bct-15 is where it all finally came together with what uniden was TRUELY looking for ease of operation to the user, a way to keep your eyes on the road and still enjoy your scanner.

Although with the bct-15 you could very likely from the specs travel all the way from Michigan to flordia and never have to touch the scanner once unless to turn it on or off at the hotel. The bct-8 that wouldn't ever happen. You'd have to tune something at some point, the bct-15 you wouldn't have to do those minor recalculations.
