Default Anyone use a police scanner on here?

How well does it help you detect cops before you see them?

Not very well it helps me find them and their locations
you know where thay are by listening to them report "traffic stop" and then they usually tell a location

It can help if you have all the right channels and know what there talking about.
Call signs, areas, etc. Most of the time if there doing a speed trap with multiple cars they will use a secondary channel as to not tie up the main, if you can here that info it would help, but lots of time its a car to car channel and there is no repeater so you will not here it everywhere you go.

Default scanner

Scanners are great tools for detecting various frequencies.

Uniden Bearcat BC350A, has lots of preprogramed channels and 20 programable. Using a glass mount antenna and it works great. Most of the law and fire channels are run thru repeaters so range is really not a problem.

I've got a simple 1000 channel digital scanner. It mostly helps me navigate accidents. I can't tell you how many times it has helped me secure an alternative route before the local radio station finished they're torso jokes and gets on to traffic. It's also got "signal stalker" which when selected allows me to monitor any exchanges in a patrol car within 1000 ft. I use that sitting at lights when there's a LEO in the pack. I've never had my tag run yet but I've overheard many others.

Also, the scanner can alert you to any reports of reckless or speeding drivers on a given interstate. Now that cell phones are everywhere it's not uncommon to hear several reports of speeding drivers on one evening commute called in by other drivers. Occasionally a call in will even have a license number on it. That's where an in car cell phone jammer comes in handy. At least then they have to write it down.

I have had 22 mile saves from Speedtraps from using scanning receivers before. Digital works better at speeds than analog.

Very much so the bct 396t is one of the best scanning receivers out there as it stands right now, along with the mobile base unit version of this unit the bcd 996d.

Although Radioshack is rumored to have a new scanning reveiver in the works. We'll see what radioshack brings to the table, and if so what uniden's response to that may be, as im sure they'd have one. They seem to want to be in front in the radio communications industry.

Although there detectors work, they can be questionable. LOL. Ran a couple of those back in my day. They do well on IO, some delay not bad though. The range i'd say is middle of the road. They got shut down for making detectors because they refused to update their fcc req's.

I really wanted that 396 soooo bad. But that $400 is chunk of change to bite out of my LI fund.
