Default Are you for or against red light cameras?

Are you for or against red light cameras? Given they are good for idiots that run red lights and cause accidents...I do give it that....but for me I am always hitting the accelerator to clear the intersection even on green just to avoid receiving a ticket, also sometimes I get caught in the middle of intersection and it turns yellow at last second, I have to speed up to the bumper of the car in front of me and slam on the brakes almost hitting them! Also late at night when you are driving you can see the flash light up your rear view mirror, makes you take your eyes off the road to see what is going on behind you, natural reaction

I am for them because I almost got killed working parole one night, I have seen people running red lights time and time again way after the light has changed and gone green.

that is when they are most definitily needed, I just think maybe they need a timer on the side of the road or on all the lights before it turns yellow or red...would give us more notice and not have to stomp through the intersection and almost rear end someone

I am guilty of running red lights too, but in areas where there is no traffic and the light turns red just to piss me off I think.

To be honest, I'm against them for safety reasons. When the light turns yellow in an area with them, many people are likely to panic, and pound the gas to avoid getting nipped when the light changes and their back end is still in the intersection for a fraction of a second. The issue is, a paniced driver slamming the accelerator could end up rear ending a vehicle infront or hitting a pedestrian that the driver would've otherwise allowed for.

In areas without them, if you are in the intersection when the light hits yellow, or are at that "Point of No Return" when the light hits yellow, you can take a bit more time to safely get through. There's usually a point in the light change where BOTH lights are red for 2-3 seconds, this is to normally allow for anyone going through the yellow to go through safely.

Traffic light cameras are necessary in some urban areas. I was hit in the rear by a taxi that assumed I was going to run the light. He even yelled at me for stopping.

There's nothing wrong with stopping for an amber light. It's not like a speeding camera that is placed to take advantage of an unnecessarily and arbitrarily low speed limit.
