Default Can cops legally do this?

Can cops legally do this...the system scans all cars approaching them, their plates...then tells if they dont have insurance, stolen, etc....

I thought cops could only run your license plate with a "reason" or think you are up to something, etc...

Well , they usually run people's plates at stop lights, late at night, etc. this just makes them more efficient. As for the legal aspects I have no clue.

That's pretty neat considering the Technology the Cops use in their Car. It's common that medium to large cities have these "High Tech" in their Car. I've seen Cops in my Town using their Laptop late at night like Dr. SVO said because of course "They have nothing better to do". It's a good thing for them to do that because I really dislike Criminals.
