Default How many have the Navalert RLC detector?

I was wondering how many on here are using the Navalert RLC detector. I have one and enjoy it very much. Who else we got?

I'm still split between it and the Cheetah GPS-Mirror.

I've got some time to ponder the decision, though, as I don't travel much, and have memorized the local camera locations.

The swing-vote may go towards the NavAlert, as my vehicle's rearview mirror may be sized too large for the GPS-Mirror's clip.

I went ahead and took the plunge for the Cheetah GPS-Mirror.

It's an awesome piece, and I highly recommend it.

Instead of just a "box" sitting on the dash, this device promotes active safety with both its convex wide-angle view as well as the blue anti-glare coating.

A+ product.

Thumbs up Re: How many have the Navalert RLC detector?

The Cheetah mirror is nice I will say. But the Navalert is very small and it doesn't bother me having it on dash right above my speedo so I can periodically check my speed.

^ That's true, the NavAlert is definitely unobtrusive, and it can be placed in direct line-of-sight, effectively serving as a secondary speedometer that can be easier to keep in-view.

The speed-tracking feature of the GPS-Mirror is nice, too, and I frequently consult it as I make my rearview mirror checks of traffic, but I definitely do see the advantage of having such a readout in more direct line-of-sight, almost akin to a HUD.

I bought the NavAlert when it first came out. It went back to Roy in 20 days. I notice that companies in Australia that used to sell them have discontinued them because of lack of updates to the device.
I am now looking at the Cheetah mirror system. It integratges with most of the high end radar detectors and the warnings come from the mirror.

^ There's been many complaints, on RD.net, regarding the lack of timely updates by NavAlert, over the last month or so.

I'm starting to lose faith.

And even though I don't own the product, I'm still very much saddened and disappointed that, for an enthusiast-oriented item, with, originally, support on RD.net, they seem to have totally tucked-tail.

I agree...it's a shame that a nifty device like that seems to be abandonware.
They just came out with an update a couple of days ago, but from what was posted on RD.net, people were receiving no e-mail responses and nothing was being posted on their part of the forum. With a new product it's important to stay in touch with customers. Some folks paid big $$$ for that little device. Pretty unsettling to be "left in the lurch" with nobody to talk to but other disgruntled owners.

^ Agreed completely.

I was very disappointed that it too such screaming from so many in that little community before an update was finally released.

alpinestars, a community fixture and long-time proponent of NavAlert, was seen to be among those who were pushed to the brink. The same of another hobbyist, whose post to complain about the lack of NavAlert response, apparently, was deleted by the Forum Moderator.

I truly hope that NavAlert gets it together, before Cheetah comes out, later this fall, with their own dash-top unit, for certainly, the SpeedCheetah/Cheetah-USA group definitely has its act together, when it comes to customer-service response.

Yep,

Unfortunately there has been little noise from Chris at Navalert. We stopped promoting (them) after a continual lack of email replies - let alone database updates.

Even TODAY I get an email from someone asking why the current download for Aus doesn't work:

"Unable to download updates
Does this product still exist in Aust
Cheers ....."

Great concept, but unfortunately doesn't have the substance to back it up. Sorry to be blunt, but that's just my experience.
