Default Cop Lights me Up Today

Forgot my credentials today, so around lunch I was on my way home to get them, cruise controlled at about 5-over in the left lane, when the RD chirps on Ka band. I downshifted to the PSL JUST in time to see...yep, a state trooper unmarked crown vic turning around in the median.

What's he do?

Gets on the highway, in the right lane, behind me. I thought he would pass me, but then he moved to the left lane, right on my butt, and flipped on the lights.

Know that sinking feeling in your stomach? Yeah, I got tha feeling, peed a little, then, thought, "WTF, for 5-over? BS!"

So I slid to the right lane, but didn't pull over. He took OFF after some guy in a red Altima. I was actually laughing hysterically when he blew by me. He just wanted to pass on the left, not the right, in his pursuit.

So while I was at home, getting my stuff, I also took a moment to clean up and change my pants. And cruise controlled it AT the PSL on the way back to work.

At least I didn't have a coronary...but another ticket would probably have meant a divorce. ...sort of.

I had one of those last week.

Speeding to work, I was actually using a rabbit this time but we were going very fast. We exited same exit. Turned on the same road then I had to stop at the left turn light to go into work and the rabbit sped off. The lights in Sugar Land are crazy long, this one is two minutes and I was there for almost all of it. About 1 minute into it a Sugar Land Charger pulls into the light behind me and of course I think. Great, probably saw us on the freeway from the frontage road and finally caught up to me.

Turned out he was just making a U-turn. But it was a fun 30 seconds. Good thing most of my gear is concealed.

Yeah, I was really happy my Pro-78 is tough to see. I had plenty of rabbits (including a red Altima...), but thanks to geometry, the warning was a little rough. He was running MOVING I/O. Talk about major SUCK.

You must had few cars on the road?

5 mph over is bullcrap but don't be surprise when you go through small towns in East Texas and they will pull you over for 1 mph and automatically get a ticket just because they have nothing better to do like 12 at night. It just happened to my dad 4-5 times before through small towns on highway. Small Town locals are very bad. Sucks to live like that.

He he he, Yeah, moving IO is DPS favorite weapon for good reason. I'll take laser any day over moving IO. Unbeatable . . .

Small town LEOs are always a PIA but they're tactics are generally pretty bad. I have a lot of family in Vidor and the local PD is usually constant on K band and generally easy to detect. But 5 mph over will definitely earn you ticket out there and it will be tough to beat. Since I live in Houston, my car isn't local so I've gotten a couple of "snoopers" pull pull me over but always after midnight so I figure they're fishing for drunks.

East Texas, it is what it is.

Precisely why I stay AWAY from Texas.

This is a rough diagram of the encounter. I was about .5 miles from the spot where the LEO turned around when I got my 2-bar first alert. Assuming his speed was the same as mine, that's about a mile with a slight curve in it. But it ramped to 5 as I faced the LEO, then disappeared JUST as I spotted him. I think he switched his radar off at that point, as he was just starting to cross the median. Enough time to slow, but it's an area with a LOT of Ka falses from the nearby military base. Still, I listen to Ka alerts, and I'm glad I did this time.

Red line is the cop's route, purple is mine. Pin C is where I suspect the cop was (approximately) when I got the first hit.

There is a very small town in South houston off interstate 45, cant rememebr the name of it but by clearlake area...starts with a w....ah... cant think of it! But one time i was driving by there and a motorcyle cop was in middle with radar on constant...easy to detect...shooting radar at us...I pass him going about 3-5 mph over the speed limit and sure enough he pulled me over

He gets off his bike, lifts up his pants, and takes off his motorcycle hat...and this huge FRO pops out ...I was like...oh sh*t.... he ends up writing me a ticket for 4 mph over the speed limit! I wanted to laugh and say....thats it...you write tickets for 4 mph over the limit...but just bit my tongue...im sure he would have tried to wrote me more violations if I said anything....ticket for "not enough air in my tire" or something of that nature

^ Yep, it's like that everywhere.

The small towns, sometimes, do use such enforcement tactics to make money.

Other times, even bigger - much bigger - towns also do the same.

It all depends.

Your hilarious RR!

That little POS town you were driving through is Webster TX and the officer was Officer Nettles. He shoots a PL3 now although a friend of mine down here swears it's an Ultralyte.

Webster is also the town that served me my "install the front plate or the next time I see you without it I'll impound your car and take you to jail."

Webster PD also has one of it's former police chiefs in jail for conspiracy to commit murder.

Webster also, was the only clear lake muni to decide not to play ball with Tom Delay and Tilman Fertitta's plans for the lake and widen the thoroughfare through Webster. So in an unprecedented move the State said FU to Webster and built a giant overpass to bypass Webster all together. That is the reason for all that crazy construction at Nasa Rd One.
(rumor has it Delay arranged for this project on a "slow boat" in other words it's going to take a long time to finish leaving Webster in a construction mess for years.)

Your welcome to your opinion on the Webster vs Washington drama but frankly I think it's hilarious that they're sitting in one of the states biggest trash bins right now. Webster was, is and will always be a trashbin.
