I tried Cobra XRS 9930 and prefer Whistler 1788, less false alarms. Reliable. Cool display and sound alerts. Sound volume OK (just switch off "Quiet" mode). Possible to use cord, if batteries low (better remove them in that case). Turn off display light and use detector for over 20 hours without cord. Really number 2 in the world among detectors with batteries. People are not honest giving one, two or three stars to this detector, that is why I give five stars.

Agreed! Got mine the other day and wife uses it. First day, picked up Ka over a mile away over a hill, other lane coming towards me. A few other pips here and there, but nothing major. Even in town its pretty darn quiet! Wish it was made in the US though!(hate buying chink!) But as far as regrets, I would get the XTR-185 for about $20 cheaper, its probably the exact same on the inside.. Love the home charger- it works with any NiCads- and the readout too. A little large, but all in all not bad for under $100!! antonline.com or barneys electronics
