I did not have a installed at a auth. blinder installer. It was installed correctly by the car audid shop because they sell esorct zr3's. They also installed my zr3 after my 2 ticket with having the blinders on. I have complete faith with my installer who knows my car very well.

Here's my attempt as inspired by this thread on mp3car.com.

Dashcam video with GPS speed imprint - court date soon... - MP3Car.com

I got a portable motion activated DVR device for $160 (records on SD card) and a mini security pinhole camera (with audio) for $45 off of ebay. I hardwired the DVR and camera to an always on fuse via an Add-A-Circuit. I keep it set to motion-activation. It will also automatically turn on if you have it hardwired to an ignition only source.

This is the DVR unit velcroed in the footwell (I usually keep it further in and out of sight):

Here's a picture of the camera:

Here's a picture of the mounted camera with all the wires tucked away (it's actually now more stealthily mounted on the side of the rear view mirror stalk):

Videos (no laser/radar encounters yet):

If I get a 4 channel DVR device, I'll hook up my back-up cam, as well as a driver and backseat cam.

Don't know the brand but it uses a Sharp CCD chip supposedly. It was an ebay Hong Kong product so who knows if it is the genuine article.

I wanted a mini security cam that was relatively cheap with an integrated mic, CCD chip, and low lux. The camera doesn't have auto-iris so bright lights like in my GW bridge video tend to wash-out the image. Also, if quality audio matters to you, get a separate high-gain mic. It picks up my LI alerts well enough, though.

Anyway, for $45 it works pretty well.

Here's the ebay description:

Mini Pin-hole Sharp CCD CCTV Camera W/Mic 420TVL

Product Code: SCA0099

* TV Color System: NTSC and PAL are available
* Sharp 1/4" CCD Color sensor
* Minimum Illumination: <0.5 Lux
* 420TV line
* Electronic Shutter (1/50 to 1/10000S)
* Back light compensation
* AGC
* 3.7mm manual lenses
* Voltage: 12V 100mA
* Output: Video (BNC)
* Power consumption: 12V 100mA

lacning74, How’s your initial GPS reception on your 9500I when first started up in the AM?

About a minute if I'm not moving. I'm surrounded by tall buildings, though, in the city. This is with a choke on as mentioned in RD.net. Without a choke, it was 113 flashes of the sat icon versus 49 flashes, same place same time of the day. Could be random, but at least doesn't seem to hurt.

A couple of things:

First my tired eyes can't even see where the heads are placed - are they in the bottom grill below the license plate? (I have a 335xi coupe and am considering adding a jammer - the heads won't fit well behind the kidney grill as the grillwork is vertical and I think most heads are rectangular and require a landscape orientation) so I was wondering if the lower grill would be too low.

Second, regarding cameras, you can get a dash-cam from HeartlandAmerica for about $80 but the resolution is not that great. What I also did was to get a power adapter for my Canon SD800IS digital camera so it can run off the cigarette lighter rather than a battery. It also saves video to an SD card.
