If Done right or if you use a clear license plate cover. It will look pretty good.

I have not seen a lic. plate cover to reduce any lidar . The 3M tape I have seen in testing in person has worked.

^ I think whistlerfan is saying that the use of a supplemental covering - a clear cover OVER the taped plate - may make it more visually "camouflaged" to rear-following enforcers.

Although I would definitely imagine this to be the case, I can't help but wonder if perhaps the glossy, clear plastic surface of said plate cover might itself also cause some additional LIDAR return, thus effectively decreasing the effectiveness of the primary plate dressing (i.e. tape-on-plate)?

This would be an interesting test.......

what I meant was put the tape on the clear plastic cover then place that over the untap license plate. The clear plastic cover allows the tape to be applied much flatter.

No please don't do that. The 3M tape should go directly on the plate. The tape isn't perfectly clear, so if you allow space between the tape the numbers will start to get blurry. Essentially the 3M clear duct tape is much like the Ontrack laser shield. You must get the shield/tape as close to the numbers as possible in order to elude suspicion.

Forgive my ignorance on this.. I'm assuming this is for folks that are required to have two license plates on their vehicles?? (which are reflective I'm sure).

In NC we only have a rear plate,, but I do have a plastic front plate (my sons school).. would plastic non reflective plates require any treatment or would that be a waste of time/effort?

That's not a dumb question.

Don't use the tape on any rear plate period. It will look suspicious because the cop can get a close look at it. Your plastic plate doesn't really need it anyway. You do need a jammer on the back for sure.
