Default I won! State of WA vs. JTW

Some of you know I was involved in a hydroplaning accident on the highway. I was very lucky I didn't die. When the officer was done assisting me, he kindly wrote me a ticket for "speeding too fast for road conditions."

It just so happened I had a camcorder in my car(not running at the time of the accident) and during the whole police encounter I recorded the accident scene.

I wrote a written contestment with a ton of pictures and the judge found me not guilty. It's the first time I have ever beat a ticket without the help of a lawyer. I'm on cloud 9.

I learned a valuable lesson from our friend Maxima(the guy who filmed a traffic stop and got the cop fired.) I usually carry a camera with me now.

Thanks man.

Similar instance happen with a guy that was part of setting the Transcontinetal record.

He totaled his 930 turbo and got a ticket for failure to stay in lane and officer told him he would be billed for the telephone pole he hit...Not once did the officer ask if he was safe.

I'm beginning to think our troopers policy is to always give a ticket when an accident happens.

^ That's indeed the rather unfortuante problem: viewed objectively, on-vehicle accidents are just that - the fault of the driver and/or the vehicle (mechanical, etc.).

Think about it logically, without an unbiased witness and/or in-depth study of the circumstances, there is simply no way for the responding officer to do anything other than either turn a blind eye to the whole thing, or write up the pure facts of the situation, based on the constraints that they are themselves given to frame said situation.

Do I like this? No. Do I agree with it? Again, most emphatically, no.

But I can see why/how.

------

JTW - I'm afraid I'm a late-comer to this story... What happened?

Sounds like the city/county was definitely at-fault, otherwise, I doubt that they'd have dismissed the case against you.

I don't understand, you said you had a camcorder in your car but not runing at the time of the accident but you recorded the accident scene. How does that work?

Congrats on your ticket fight!

After the accident I pulled out the camcorder and taped my wrecked car and surroundings.
