Can we really trust TrueLock at this point, and even moreso this new "AutoLearn" feature?

Yes, as long as you know its limitations it works awesome. As for the new AutoLearn feature there is allot going on over the old TrueLock and seems to actually work better.

^ Like CJR above, I truly feel that TrueLock *is* trustworthy - it's just that there *are* technological limitations to the "resolution" capability of TrueLock, as well as, of course, that the end-user has to properly utilize the feature (look at CJR's "Risk Scenarios" for proper analysis).

The end-user is most likely to run afoul of the latter considerations - an improper assessment of one's "risk scenario."

But improper/incomplete understanding of the former - the technical limitations of TrueLock - can also cause just as big of a problem.

Used properly, TrueLock does work, and the end-user will benefit greatly from it.

You know... I am all for trying to help with falsing... but... really all this is doing is driving up the cost of detectors cause they use a buch of useless features that dont help the most important feature of all and why you bought it in the first place....

This is what makes me stick to my V1... ( and Im not trying to Zombie this thread) ... My point is... make your detection better then it is... so that you pick up everything to its natural limitations.... THEN add all of the toys to make it that much better... but when your SUB BIRDIE detection is not THE BEST BY A GOOD MEASURE... focus on detection instead of these quick thrills... If they had the best detection better then the V1... and then had the GPS this that and the other... then I would see the justification to spend 500 dollars...

Basically The way I see it... Escort makes a few software changes ... some cheap ... and I mean VERY CHEAP hardware changes (the microchips they buy to program are bought in bulk for about .001 per chip) ... cause they buy so many... then they turn around and will charge you 500 dollars for this detector... and WONT UPGRADE you when you bought the last version... I mean atleast with the V1 I can pay 75 bucks for an upgrade and not have to buy a whole new detector...

This is why I appreciate V1... and again ... not trying to bash Escort cause they make decent detectors... but they have just gone off in the deep end with cobra in my opinion.

I think your missing the point, all the current tests show the 9500I/ix to have almost the range of the V1, which i think you would agree the V1 has more than enough range. Now they have added a few very useful features that prevent mind numbing falses so when you do get a real one you can react better and more appropriately. There is other ways to increase detection range that doesn’t require more sensitivity of the RD, The other way is to increase the reaction time for the user.

Just because V1 hasn’t revamped there unit, except for the $225 upgrade they had a few years back, it doesn’t mean other company’s that are thinking out side the box are wrong.
The bigest complaint form all RD users, is falses, not detection range. So it aperies that Escort is the only one thinking of what there clients really want.

Don’t get me wrong i see what your saying but sometimes features is what makes the product. There is a huge advantage to a RD that only goes off if there is a real threat plus has good detection range.

There is also a huge advantage for a company to appeal to a lower end market.

You do seem to be a V1 zombie. I just got on and the first two threads I read you are there promoting it when no one even mentions it.

You have to admit though the V1 does provide the best radar and laser detection and has the arrows and bogey counter an all that. It always sucks having to go back and forth to looking all around from front to your rear view mirror to find out where the hell the threat is. Escort should add an indicator which displays up, down, or left/right arrows somewhere on the LED when operating in tech mode.

If I didn't live in a state infested motion sensor/auto opening and closing doors (Jersey) than I would get the V1, certainly over the STi I currently have, which is also a great detector, but not as good as the V1 from what I hear. I think another thing stopping me from getting the V1 is that our state police and some muncipalities still use X band so I can't turn it off (X band gives the most falses).

I'm really considering replacing the STi with the 9500xi. It's a shame the 9500xi does not have the City NoX feature like the STi does. Toggling X on/off should be as simple as the touch of a button, rather than having to go into the programming to turn it on/off.

Back in the day (20 years ago) I had a fancy K40 radar detector with receivers mounted on the front and back of my car. I thought it was cool. I thought, "Now I'll know where they are."

I can't remember it actually ever helping me. Basically it came down to this: Radar detector goes off, slow down fast. That's the game. Knowing where they are in proximity to you, while admittedly cool, doesn't really change the game.

After that car was done and I got another car I just bought an ESCORT 4500. I stuck it to my windshield and it worked. I thought about a V1 at the time and I think it's a fine detector but the price was too much for me to justify. I also remember it being kind of bulky. The arrows on it, again, while cool, I didn't think would actually help me in real life.

The 9500i was the first one I've bought in a long time where I think the extra feature (GPS) will help me. I can lock out falses without locking out all X-band (which is what I did with my 8500x50) and if I see cops waiting 'just over a hill' I can mark their location so I'm reminded to be careful next time.

We'll see how that plays out long term but in my mind, it seems like a good thing.
