Default Escort Passport 9500ci Radar Detector Reviews

I wonder on the new escort passport 9500ci the range of the radar detector in it? Would love to see a test done on it against say the valentine one radar....Im guessing it probably will have the same radar range as the 9500i radar they released....how ever the radar sensors are installed in the bumper then like the normal Escort Passport 9500ci that is installed in the window....seems like the laser detection would be better...however the overall performance of the radar would drop as it is more to the ground and would have less of a chance of picking up radar scatter earlier..... which is one of the advantageous of mounting a radar detector up high by the rear view mirror.

I'm not sure exactly how the RADAR aspect of the 9500ci will compare to the V1 in terms of raw sensitivity - the rumor mill has been saying that it's going to be a close call, and I'd think that more than likely, if it is*truly* that close, then individual end-unit variations will likely determine the overall victor.

Similarly, I am sure that there must be advantages to an external-to-vehicle mounting that is escaping me. Perhaps the tech gurus, such as The Professor (jimbonzzz on RD.net) would be better able to clarify for us why such a setup may be beneficial.

In relation to the old SR7/SRX, though, it was seen on RacerX's vehicle that the ability for this detector's RADAR antenna to be mounted *INSIDE* the car, at extreme height (and, to be fair, not something that's cited in the user's manual - in as much as the ZR3s' were often mounted with all three heads front-pointing, an "off the books, 'enthusiast's' setup," if you will), allowed it even better performance - at times surpassing that of the V1. Similarly, we've also seen how an *extremely* low-to-the-road mounting, such as that sported by ProSpeeder on his 'Vette, can also effectively allow the antenna to "see beneath" preceeding cars, and thus also return with outrageous performance levels.

As for the LIDAR side of things, I have little doubt that this detector will be excellent - the ZR3, despite the lack of optical collimator use (as found in the V1), was still recognized as being among the most sensitive laser RECEIVER of its era. It's really inconceiveable, to me, that Escort would take a step backwards in this respect, particularly as it is already evident that the 9500i (as well as the latest-platform x50s) are already much better at receiving and alerting to LIDAR, even also now being coded to properly detect Laser Atlanta Stealth Mode.

Since the 9500ci has the horn design from STi-r (and STi) the range compared to the 9500i should be noticebly better. Not sure what they did to the STi-R and 9500ci but On certain settings My STi-R kicks the crap out of all my other detectors - 9500i and STi included. K and Ka band have been improved even with the STi-R mounted low and the others mounted high.

Looking forward to the tests against the V1 with 9500ci and STi-r. We should see some shortly.

There are some videos on Youtube from germany showing someone running the V1 and STi-R together YouTube - radarroger01's Channel
He has some other nice toys also. Keep in mind that this is photo radar which is different that the Ka we face here so results might be different.

Also have to remember the V1 is considerably less expensive than these new detectors at least in the US.

The V1 also doesn’t jam laser, so it really shouldn’t be tested in comparison to the CI or STI-R.

Sti-R does not jam laser either. That's what the LPPs are for .

Biggest differences between the STi-R and the 9500ci are that the STi-R has selectable Ka band defeats and a Red Display. 9500ci has the zr4s and the GPS lockout/Speed Camera database with a Blue Display.

The V1 Should Definately be tested against these two detectors when it comes to radar performance.

You can add a ZR4 to STI-R (or use with any detector for that matter).

very nice information...thanks!! Is there any test out there showing the range difference in radar from a lower mounted radar at the floor level...where you license plate is vs. say the rear view mirror up high for radar scatter?? not necessarily between different radar....same brand....whats the range of K band and Ka band low by the license plate and up above the rear view mirror

Honestly I have no idea what the differences are when you mount high -vs- low. I am getting very good reception low and the unit is hidden from view so I plan on keeping that way. RacerX has his mounted above the Rear View Mirror so he may be able to add some knowledge to this - Especially after Him and Roy do their tests of the 9500ci.

I have seen some good ideas to mount this on a ski rack and I would assume mounting higher would get better reception, but I am not sure if it is needed.
