POP alert on Escort Passport 9500i Radar Detector ...false??

Today while sitting at a stop light that is left turn only I got a 2 spike alert for POP then BAM! full alert. The RD was pointed in the direction of a strip mall, traffic was light, and I didn't see not one LEO. The area is sort of congested were I sitting.

I am kinda leaning towards the alert being false. This town is too small...I thought to have POP...maybe I'm wrong. I've picked up some Ka, but to tell you the truth this thing has probably gone off maybe 5-6 X's since last Saturday. What ya think???

POP is really a waist of time to leave on, you will most likely get more falses by it being on.
POP is rarely used and cannot be used to give a ticket. Its very unlikely they are using POP but if you don’t mind the falses leave it on to be safe.

The only way to know for certain if an officer is actually using POP is if you're sitting in the patrol car next to him while he does it.

POP mode on the 9500i is pretty cool. I was using my 9500i yesterday w/ POP on, and a Cobra rd set off POP. What I liked, was the instant on type of sound in POP mode and the voice saying," POP ALERT". Even if it was a false, it sure sounded cool for a false.

Laser guns DMI is letting me borrow right now....I have fun with drivers with the RD up high doing about 90 mph down the highway. Today saw one riding everyone on their bumper and driving like a jack ass...pulled out the pro laser 3 and bam nailed him from behind....never seen someone break so hard down from 90 mph

pop is NOT a wate of time since they use them here in cincinnati, geesh dude wake up to the Real world. it only takes One pop radar to hit u then bam u have a ticket, i had it happen to me, so No, its Not a waste of time geesh

Have you ever read what POP is used for? you obviously have no clue.
You cant get a ticket from it, Its against the law for every state to issue a ticket by using POP only. Besides, 1/2 the RD's out there don't pick up POP well and potentially hinder performance on some.

The LEO after using POP must use a standard method to get your speed (radar,laser,pacing) if you fought it in court you would of won.

I will say it again just to be clear You cannot get a ticket with only POP legally.

However if you want every possible chance of protection you can leave POP on like stevewebb did.

So, you've talked to the officers in your area, and they confirm that they use POP, right? And you have confirmed, through first-hand testing, directly against these setups (with the co-operation of said officers in utilizing their equipment, in real-time, so that you can confirm that you are getting a true-POP alert, versus falsie-positives from I/O or even C/O).

They're only using 67ms Ka-band POP, right? 'Cause that's the only one the 9500i can catch.

That's a startlingly poor performance, considering that there's three other potential POP threats out there. 1 out of 4. That's poor, very poor, for a "flagship" detector. If the false positives aren't bad enough (as they can severely degrade the end-user's trust in his detector, which is a FATAL tactical error that's sometimes committed even by hard-core and highly experienced enthusiasts), these false negatives should seal the deal.

Unless you can absolutely and without a shadow of doubt confirm the use of 67 ms Ka-band POP in your area, via first-hand, first-person interview and confession of use, you're just deluding yourself, and furthermore, the additional "scan time" that's required to sweep for those threats translates to a non-insignificant degradation in alert distances on "traditional" bands, which can be a tremendous liability in true I/O usage situations.

If POP is a true threat in your area, go with the V1. At least you'll have a chance at catching 2 out of 4 potential threats. Again, in this case, you'd better make CERTAIN that those POP threats you face can actually be "caught" by the V1.
