What pisses me off more then anything is when people try to put cobra and whistler on the same level. This just really gets my blood boiling.

I agree, cobra and whistler shouldn’t even be said in the same sentence, there so much better.
But I do see whistlers mounted like cobras sometimes. I saw one mounted directly behind windshield wipers the other day.

That is absolutely true. At first, I thought Whistler and Cobra were on the same level because of the price/performance but then when I been lurking through reviews, Whistler actually gets the true price/performance. They are much better than Cobra.

The customer service is what puts them far and away from cobra.

The ESD 737 IMO would probably be the most decent as its actually meant to just be a plain jane radar detector, it doesn't focus on putting a compass in the unit.

I'm not sure which is best, but apparently they are supposed to be aimed toward satellites in the sky, as far as I can tell from the ones I've seen in cars.

Ka detection is extremely week if almost non existant on cobras. Cobra does not want to increase the base range line of their detectors and raise their rock bottom prices since their already making money hand over fist. Of course if they weren't making money you might find cobra trying to increase their ka range.
I have a 95 ford bronco that is red driving down a road going 100mph(tuned up the truck) ka wnet off and i had plenty of time to stop down to 55mph(the speed limit) cobra xrs 9950

Cobra radar detectors arent bad if within 1/4 mile of the source, and have a rabbit in front of you. Anything 1/2 mile or more...probably will not have enough time to slow down. If using laser..you are SOL. More then likely in that scenario the cop was using constant on radar to give you that much of notice using a cobra radar detector.

My 1st was a Bell, then a K40 then a 8500. Needless to say the K40 was a load and the 8500 rocked.

The best Cobra RD is the one you throw in the trash.

And more than just outstanding customer service separates WHistlers from Crapras. You can TRUST a Whistler RD. Not a Cobra.
