Exclamation Finally Found One, Bel 980!

After months of searching I finally found it, a Bel 980 !
This is one of my favorite radar detectors to use for my "bang for the buck" I only paid 80.00 for it, quite a bargain

Good job nab'n one!

Funny,, I just sold a guy at work my Bel 860 for $50. It actually works pretty decent today.. but nowhere near as well as the newer ones out.

Any Bel collectors out there,, I got a Bel Vantage 3 if interested... just make an offer.. as it dont fit in with my Escort collection and I have no reason to keep it. Not good for today's use, but works and would be a good addition to a Bel collector

I havent used the Bel 980 in at least 3 years, I am curious to see how it does. Back about 3 years ago it was detecting cops out at least 2-3 miles, was very impressed...times change though...will do a review on it when I receive it.

I have owned alot of the older Bel's and just loved the design of the good' ol detectors and they worked very well.

The 980 was always my favorite. I only received 1 ticket and that was from laser while using it for 5 years. After I bought an Rx-65 I sent the 980 back to Bel and they tuned it up for me and added a louder speaker and a new power cord. I keep it in my glove box as a backup and use it with the convertible, since the volume is a bit louder than the STI and RX-65 (and its the only vehicle without the external bel speaker).

On Ka band it is very very close to the RX-65 and not too far from the STi. Its looks are aging but its been a very good detector. When bel offered to take it as a trade in on the newer detectors, I just could not bear part with it.

Talking Re: Finally Found One, Bel 980!

I just got one myself for $44.99, rarely used, looks like brand new. ALL the extras are still in their wrappers. Even the soft case still smells like "pleather".

These 980s can STILL hold their own against STis, X50s, V1s, and 9500is.
