I need a hardwired/permanent install radar detector in my vehicle. I know the Valentine 1 and Bel 9500 is highly recommended, but those stick to the windshield and are very visible.

I want a stealth install. I do not want it confisc.... er. stolen. I don't mind buying one for each vehicle.

Does anyone have experience with the Beltronics 975? Looks pretty inexpensive. (I have a line on one second hand from a member of a car club I'm on.)

Some sites on the net say the filtering is not as great as some of the higher priced units, but it's still a good buy. How does this filtering affect performance? More false alarms or more not going off when it should?

Any other divorced unit radar detectors people recommend?

Default Re: Beltronics Vector 975R Opinions or Experiences?

Im all about the Bel 980. The Valentine One actually has a visor mount that can be installed stealth, the 9500i I cant remember if it does or not standard, but should be easy to find a visor mount if you dont want it visible in the windshield. Plus like in my car I run the direct wire cord through the liner of the roof in my vehicle so there are no wires running up to the roof letting someone know I have a radar up there.

If you are looking for a good bang for your buck radar go with the Bel 980..can get it for 75.00.... if you are looking for a little better performance try the new Whistler Rev C. Pro 78...can get that for about 170.00.... depends on what your price range I guess.

The Bel 980 does a great job at K band and Ka band, for laser performance it sucks, if you get hit with laser the cop is pretty much right on top of you. The valentine one radar and the 9500i actually will give you a very short period to slow down MOST of the time....however their maybe sometimes you get the notice when you are right on top of him as well...thats why they make laser jammers

But overall the Bel 980 does a great job and gives you plenty of time to slow down if their is a cop coming close, say 1.5 miles or less it is good for. The V1 and 9500i are high performance units and if you are looking for notice past the 1.5 mile mark or more...look to them. The Pro 78 is a great radar detector from what I have heard, but never have used on before, but can tell you the reviews show good for that radar.

Second, dont EVER buy a cobra radar, no matter how cheap you paid for it...just stick with your eyes for detection.... you are better off

As far as false alerts like the V1 allows you to do and the 9500i and the Bel 980 and im sure the Pro 78 allows (assuming), you can turn X band off...this is the band stores MAINLY use and by turning them off you are basically elmininating most false alerts...there has been reports of cops using x band here and there....but like most people....it would be VERY uncommon to run into a cop using x band, where are you from and we can tell you if it has been reported, but the chance of finding a cop using X band is like winning the lottery , so you are MOSTLY safe by turning it off completly.

I know the V1 has a remote mount display, but you still have to have the V1 stuck somewhere with a view of the windshield. Additionally, the V1 still has it's own built in screen still attached.

There is no doubt that it's a radar detector if I'm pulled over and the cop comes to my window.

With the separated setup, I can mount the sensors on the car. I was thinking the roof rack support pillars or maybe near the rear view mirror and saying it's a sensor for dimming the headlights automatically when there is oncoming traffic.
Meanwhile the display is hidden down by the shifter under a flap of excess leather from the shift boot, or it could be built into the dash behind some smoked plexiglass where idiot lights once were. When the detector is off, the glass looks black.

I really should specify where in the D.C. metro area I am, but I think you can guess.

The other hint is they run Spectre here.
