Default BEL STI's 33.8 BUG

Hi everyone,

While talking to Belscort today, David said that there was a grey area between 2107 and 2507 where they were not sure if STi's produced in that time period have the 33.8 bugfix, and that they will re-flash any STi produced during this time period just to make sure that it has the bugfix. Based on this information, any STi produced during or after 2607 has the bugfix.

David also said that the 33.8 bug has been a real headache, but that they are doing their best to make customers happy since they don't want to lose any customers. He also was under the impression that the 33.8 bug really wasn't all that serious. I explained that the bug can cause extremely late warnings to Ka 33.8 and sometimes no warning at all.

I just thought that I would pass this along

I had my STi reflashed. I have not noticed any difference in performance.

FYI, I encounter lots of 33.8 in my travels, and I have never had a problem picking up this band. In fact I had great difficulty wrapping my head around the idea that there was a problem at all.

When the "proof" became undeniable that a "Bug", did exist , also the fact I was going to Europe and could live without an RD, I decided to get the re-flash.

STi is a Solid performer. Great RD.

Default had

I had both of my Bel STi's 33.8 checked at the last event I was at and my STi's have NOT had the new software for 33.8. Both units performed very well against 33.8 which makes me think I don't need the flash. I guess it just depends on the unit.

Horn,

You have both the V1 and STi, right? What are your thoughts on comparison of the two?

I use a V1 but have been considering adding an STi to the arsenal.

Let me start by saying BOTH are excellent RD's.

The differences in detection capability (except laser) is so minimal between the two in the real world that IMHO, it's not worth arguing/debating about.

That being said the filtering on the STi is much better, and it is definitely less chatty than the V1.

The STi is built like a TANK, very solid construction.

I love the V1 for the Arrows, the ramp up, excellent W/S mounting system, and superior remote display ( I have Lifespeeds coloured display).

I love the STi, because it is STEALTH. I can use it up here and not being continually looking over my shoulder like I used to.

IMHO, if you do not need to be invisble there are other cheaper RD's available, that are as good as the STi, that would serve your purposes, just fine. I loved my Bel 985, it was a great RD.

I had to use my 985 for a week while waiting to get my STi back from it's 33.8 re-flash. I had forgotten how good that RD was.

If RD's are legal in your area BUT $ is no object and you really want a STi, go for it you will not be disappointed, I am not, I love it.

Hope this helps.

Horn,

Yes. Very helpful and TY.

I think I'll prolly get one. I sometimes drive thru the Communistwealth, and I am always concerned about that with my V1. I know it's just a BS "equipment" fine, but I don't want a reason for the VSP to find something else. I'm sure they would come up with something else for revenue generation. I hate driving in the Peoples Republic.

I just wish Valentine would step up to the plate and make a Spectre proof product. I don't want to wait for the Q1/Q2 2008 rumors tho. I don't hold out for rumors. Show me the product if you want me to buy it. Otherwise, it is just BS marketing. Only buy products which are retailed, IMHO.
