Default Beltronics RX75 Giving me problems

Alright, I posted at radardetector.net about advice mounting my radar antenna, but haven't heard anything back. I have a metal treatment in my windshield, and according to MikeV that results in a 90% drop in effectivness for windshield mounted detectors, so I pulled the V1 off the glass in favor of an RX75.

Right now the range is anything but stellar, but I haven't had a good chance to compare the units, with a stationary officer, I used to see them all the time around here, and now I don't ever, haha. So, I was thinking of moving the antenna up to grill (it is currently a few inches back from it on the right...here is a shot of the front end of my car, a c30):

http://www.sport-cars.org/site_img/l...olvo-C30-1.jpg

I want to move it to the top left (the side away from the chrome cross bar) and move it right up to a gap in the grill.

Now I have ANOTHER problem. I went on the highway, I was getting constant X alerts in city mode, so I switched it to City no-X, but I have passed cops on the highway in Michigan using X, so I want it highway mode. But I get a false every couple of minutes. They always start at a full strength 9 (I have it in strength mode) then count down through the numbers, and shuts off. Only to do the EXACT same thing a few moments later. Is this a defective unit? I will call Beltronics tommorow, I really don't want to have to pull the whole system and send it back, but I am about ready to do that. And it seems like a waste to reinstall the thing to me. My V1 works better even handicapped by that windshield.

The link you posted does not work for me. It says that the image access was denied.

The next time your on the highway, look out for a radar transmitting device that are sometimes located onto call boxes or random poles on the side of the road. They seem to be low powered, and usually set a detector off at full alert. I have experienced these in So. Cal, especially when traveling through Ventura. Every time I get a full blast K-band, I look for "the" pole with a radar/camera looking object mounted on it. Sure enough one is there. The alerts then stop as I enter Oxnard/Los Angeles area, and sure enough I don't come across anymore radar/camera looking devices.

You can call Beltronics and explain your situation, they may refund you or send you a new unit if you are under warranty. If you have the opportunity for a refund, take it and either purchase the 9500i or the 9500ci in April as you can lock these signals out.

Hope this helps.

perhaps, but I tried to notice some sort of pattern, like passing something similar each time, but couldn't notice anything. Still, thanks for the advice, I am going to be driving along the same stretch of road in the morning, so I will try turning X back on, then try again to find a pattern while looking for that sort of thing on the side of the road.

I thought that maybe it was an issue of power to the unit dropping periodically, and causing it to run back through its startup sequence, but there is more to the sequence, and if that were the case, when I turn off the X, it should do the same thing with K, but doesn't. I was thinking the same thing about the 9500ci actually, haha. But that think is expensive, and I like the display on mine, I don't like the design, or the blue on that one, but I guess styling is a minor price to pay for superior performance.

I agree completely, I have a new found respect for that little box (I should also mention it is a 1.7, hasn't been updated in quite a while)

In other news the X problem has reduced significantly. I am going to reposition the antenna (just got the car back from the dealer this morning), and then will compare it to the V1 again. If performance doesn't improve, I am still in my 30 day trial, I am just goint to get my money back.

My wife and i got tired of taking the rd down whenever we came on post or got out of the car..so I went this route.Haven't regretted it one bit. We're not speeders(only go 5 to 7 over) so even a 2 mile alert is good for me..Every rd for me here on out will be remote.

I was contemplating moving the antenna to below the front plate to see what kind of difference i get with reception. One thing i noticed about NYSP is that on 81 alot of there center median spots are raised so that there looking down onto you which enables their radar or laser device to have an "above you " advantage,so i'm still contemplating.
