No this is not the close call feature. It is beartracker totally different.

I also have a bct-8 and a bcd996t, and close call is nothing like beartracker totally different technology. Although the bct-8 is a nice scanner if i had to do it over again i'd get the bct-15 instead, it has 2,500 programable channels as opposed to 250 and also, it has close capture and beartracker features, and is gps capable as well.. I might be getting rid of my bct-8 sometime in the future and getting a bct-15 instead. Not to mention the bct-15 covers more allocated frequencies as well, also bands. Not that the bct-8 isn't nice it's the clearest scanner i've heard thus far compared to my bcd996t, although from the looks of things the bct-15 is a better scanner.


Also when the average running price is only about 30 dollars more for the bct-15 which is a better scanner obviously why not spend the extra 30 bucks for the added features such as close call i beleive it's worth it, not to mention the channel difference was kind of a let down on the bct-8. Once again it works very well, and the thing is clear as day, but, the features are lacking to some degree of what we know uniden is now capable of, although this scanner is out of production now anyhow, uniden doesn't even retail it anymore not even as a refurb. So if it breaks good luck getting service. And also as biased mentiond the lcd display will not dim which im pretty sure on the bct-15 it will as it looks like a very similar display as to my bcd996t and that will even go into full dark mode so if your operating a scanner in an area where illegal to have in the car you just put it in full dark and it will maintain giving alerts.

This is just my .02 I recommend the bct-15 myself if you by chance get the chance to read this.
