You don't admit guilt, you're just asking how fast he clocked you at. You never stated your speed, but you also didn't act like you didn't know the answer to his question. If you said something like "I don't know" or something of that sort, you admit that you were not paying attention to your speed.
For the "Do you know why I pulled you over?" question, its pretty simple:
"I'm not quite sure why you stopped me today sir. What seems to be the problem?"
Again, you're not admitting to anything. And you're asking the officer the reason he pulled you over. The officer cannot use this against you since TBH, he could've pulled you over for just about anything: Speeding, registration, tail-lights...etc. |
Exactly. Do you know why I stopped you? To this question I'll respond, "Missing tag" or "Dead tailights" I used to be able to use "no front plate" but not anymore.
Do you know how fast you were going?
You can't beat "Can you tell me what speed you clocked me" Best answer.
More and more often however, when I'm pulled the LEO doesn't say anything. They just ask for my DL and PFR, then come back with the citation.
When I got pulled for 30 over he had me sit in the passenger side of his patrol car which I thought was a bit strange. But he wrote me for 24 over.
