Very much so the bct 396t is one of the best scanning receivers out there as it stands right now, along with the mobile base unit version of this unit the bcd 996d.
Although Radioshack is rumored to have a new scanning reveiver in the works. We'll see what radioshack brings to the table, and if so what uniden's response to that may be, as im sure they'd have one. They seem to want to be in front in the radio communications industry.
Although there detectors work, they can be questionable. LOL. Ran a couple of those back in my day. They do well on IO, some delay not bad though. The range i'd say is middle of the road. They got shut down for making detectors because they refused to update their fcc req's.
