I did a cheap setup, the video quality I thought was ok.... its a sony camera I already had that is 13.6 megapixels so very high resolution, shoots in 1080HD. I just bought a cheap mount off ebay for like 15.00 that works like a suction cup but I mounts to the dash and holds the camera up, and just turn the camera on and shoot when I want... it works fine and the mount can easily be removed to another vehicle...
I looked at other setups with having a permanent camera mounted in the car....for cost reasons and quality of film and all other electrical issues involved just went the easy route.
